K. White Art Program
Hello, my name is Alejandro Martinez and I am the Art teacher here at K. White Middle School. I have been teaching Art both at the high school and middle school levels for about 4 years now. I started teaching in Laredo, Texas but recently moved to Mission and the Valley last year. Though I am relatively new to teaching, I have been a professional artist for nearly 20 years now. I am highly skilled at nearly all types of artistic media such as oil paint, acrylic paint, pencil, pen, charcoal, pastel, and clay sculpture. My aim is to expose our kids to a wide range of artistic expression. Here at K. White, kids will have the oppotunity to work with basic painting, color mixture, comic book and cartoon drawing, abstract painting, basic clay sculpture, and collage. Like all teachers I always strive to maintain a high level of discipline, but at the same time I wish for all my students to have fun in my classes. In my view, Art class is meant to tap into a different form of creativity, a different way of looking at the world and everything within it that Art provides. I believe this benefits the kids in the sense that it helps their problem solving abilities both in life and in school because Art is present in everything we see around us, from the clothes we wear, to the cars we drive, the design of our houses, our accessories, our cellphones, everything we possess or are surrounded by incorporates some form of art and design, it was created by someone. In this way, Art permeates, is seen in, and enhances all our school disciplines.
