Biography Biografía

I was born in Brownsville, Texas on November 20, 1973. I graduated from Porter High School in 1992. I graduated in the top 5% of my senior class with hard work and dedication because it was not an easy task.
I was a migrant student throughout my junior high, high school, and a few summers during my college years. We traveled to Michigan (Stockbridge, Fowlerville, Lansing, Traverse City) from 1983-1994. We worked in the fields picking cucumbers (my 2 brothers, 3 sisters, and I would sit on the tall buckets and eat one with kool-aid, salt, and hot sauce), cabbage, strawberries (half would go to my stomach, the other half to the bucket😄), and cherries (which I personally never liked). From 1990-1995, we traveled to Blue Earth, Minnesota. Our job was a lot easier there. We worked indoors at Green Giant Foods, now Seneca Foods, canning pea and corn. We worked the night shift from 7 pm until 7 am, six days a week. With money earned during the summers, my parents would allow us to buy a bus ticket (except in the year 1986) to come back to school and start on time, buy our supplies for school, and clothing that would have to last us until the next summer. My parents still migrated to Minnesota up until my mom passed away on August 8, 2022.
I graduated from TAMU-Kingsville on May 9, 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and got married the day after on May 10, 1997. I enjoy the fields of Math and Science. Due to my husband's job location here in the valley, On 1999, I began the alternative certification program to become certified to teach Secondary Math. I started as a long term substitute teacher here at K. White Junior High, the only school I have worked in, in the Spring of '99. On August 1999, I was offered a job as an 8th Grade Math teacher and have been here since.  taught 8th grade Math, Algebra 1, and Geometry up until May 2013. I taught 7th Grade Math for the past 11 years. I just completed 25 years of service at MCISD. This school year brings changes as I am a Math Intervention teacher for 7th and 8th grade students that are in my class based on previous STAAR results.
I have a 15 year old daughter, born in 2009. She is also a student in our MCISD district.
With all my childhood experiences as a migrant traveling up north to work "en las labores", speaking Spanish first and having to learn English as a second language at school, I learned how difficult it may be to learn at school. We all learn in different ways. Needing to adjust to school, especially if a student does not start on the first day of school due to their migrant status, could also be a challenge. In 1986, I enrolled in school until October.
With my students' parent(s) support, I will help strengthen math skills for each of my students that will help each gain a better understanding of math.
I know how that first impression of their teacher is important to a child to help the child feel secure and trust that he/she will be successful. Parents, with your assistance, we can help your child succeed. I look forward to helping your son/daughter learn Math like they have never learned before. I am here to assist you in any way I can.

Fui un estudiante migrante durante mi secundaria, preparatoria y algunos veranos durante mis años universitarios. Viajamos a Michigan (Stockbridge, Fowlerville, Lansing, Traverse City) de 1983 a 1994. Trabajábamos en los campos recogiendo pepinos (mis 2 hermanos, 3 hermanas y yo nos sentábamos en los cubos altos y comíamos uno con kool-aid, sal y salsa picante), repollo, fresas (la mitad iría a mi estómago, la otra mitad al cubo😄) y las cerezas (que personalmente nunca me gustaron). De 1990 a 1995, viajamos a Blue Earth, Minnesota. Nuestro trabajo fue mucho más fácil allí. Trabajamos bajo techo en Green Giant Foods, ahora Seneca Foods, enlatando guisantes y maíz. Trabajamos el turno de noche desde las 7 pm hasta las 7 am, seis días a la semana. Con el dinero ganado durante los veranos, mis padres nos permitían comprar un boleto de autobús (excepto en el año 1986) para regresar a la escuela y comenzar a tiempo, comprar nuestros útiles para la escuela y ropa que tendría que durarnos hasta el el próximo verano. Mis padres todavía emigran a Minnesota debido al calor del verano aquí en el valle.
Me gradué de TAMU-Kingsville el 9 de mayo de 1997 con una licenciatura en Ingeniería Mecánica y me casé al día siguiente, el 10 de mayo de 1997. Disfruto los campos de las matemáticas y las ciencias. Debido a la ubicación de trabajo de mi esposo aquí en el valle, obtuve la certificación para enseñar matemáticas en secundaria en 1999. Comencé como maestra suplente a largo plazo aquí en K.White en la primavera del '99. En agosto de 1999, me ofrecieron un trabajo como maestra de matemáticas de octavo grado y he estado aquí desde entonces. Estaba enseñando matemáticas de séptimo grado durante los últimos 11 años pero me han dado la oportunidad de ser maestra de matematica intervencionista.
Tengo una hija de 14 años, nacida en 2009. También es estudiante en nuestro distrito MCISD.
Con todas las experiencias de mi infancia, aprendí lo difícil que puede ser aprender en la escuela. Todos aprendemos de diferentes formas. La necesidad de adaptarse a la escuela, especialmente si un estudiante no comienza el primer día de clases debido a su estatus migratorio, también podría ser un desafío. (En 1986, me inscribí en la escuela hasta octubre).
Quiero hacerles saber que estaré disponible para mis estudiantes y sus padres para ayudar en todo lo que pueda.
Sé que la primera impresión de su maestro es importante para un niño para ayudarlo a sentirse seguro y a confiar en que tendrá éxito. Padres, con su ayuda, podemos ayudar a que su hijo tenga éxito. Espero poder ayudar a su hijo / hija a aprender matemáticas como nunca antes lo habían aprendido. Estoy aquí para ayudarlo en todo lo que pueda.
