welcome guys today we're going to do scale factor and similar figures  so what's the goal for today go number 1 similar figures have corresponding sides that are proportional what does that mean if y'all remember watching the scale amounts that you remember that every time all I would come to the rescue not only what you change the height but she would also change the width everything would change proportionally so that's what what we want to get from today similar figures have corresponding sides that are I know this thing is that  corresponding angles are congruent and doesn't matter if the shape is then the dilation the angles are always going to be congruent and it is available after the Savoy four congruence Canada's squiggly line with an equal sign under it so go ahead and copy this and going to go ahead and posit for a second or two so you can finish writing it down I mean I don't know if you guys are fans of nine a splits this song might sound familiar no not yet it's not a lovable little creature Gizmo he was a Mogwai in the movie Gremlins and little creatures but in this case Gizmo found himself walking  in the scientific lab and then all of a sudden the lake the ends of spleen have you been had bad man going  what happened though they play Corey action and then all of a sudden poor Gizmo  he started to get bigger so what happened well Gizmo originally he had a width of 5 inches and he had a height of 8 inches and when he got a larger due to the water he got three and a half times larger which is your scale factor know what I wanted to do right now to draw a little gift small draw a dilation which is the bigger one and go ahead and draw his original size and we're going to go ahead and pause it you can do that so we are back and I say I want you to do is to draw what is table the table was going to have two columns original and dilation and go ahead and make it with three rows and I'll give you a couple seconds to do that okay let's go ahead and take our scale factor go ahead and do that in red tape are scale factor which is 3.5 or three and a half and we're going to go ahead and multiply that by the lamp which was eight  help me out 5 * 8 gives  40 3 * 8 is what 24 + 4 gives us 28 and then with your high my lights are digits behind the decimal there's only one so we're going to move our decimal point back one space and the land ended up and 228 inches so you're going to go ahead and put that in the dilation box next we're going to go ahead can multiply the width  because it has to be proportional what happens to the length has to happen to the width and can ignore chispita she's barking a storm over there so the product of 5 is 40  the product may have a mistake I was not thinking straight because she's Peter is barking 5 inches I'm sorry  5 * 5 25  3 * 5 gives us 15 + 2  17th and then again there is 1 digit behind the decimal so you turned into 17 and a half inches so that have it we have two similar figures and let's go back to the picture  the one on the left  this is the last he had a length of 8 inches and a width of 5 inches and then when he became three and a half times larger my 5in turned into what going back to the table hopefully you set this 17 and 1/2 in and my light turned into 28in so there you go does proportional to the picture on the right gay so that does it for today and  before before I go ahead and let's see give you the thought of the day here's activity that we're going to be doing you're going to get step one you're going to cut the shapes on this puzzle that I'm going to give your group step to everyone in your group is going to use a rule can you get a measure using centimeters and as you can see I already left some of the measurements there so you can copy Lowe's and then step 3 you're going to dilate using a scale factor that I'm going to give each group going to have a different scale factor we going to recreate this quiz so  where can I go ahead and do that for you and Saturday is this how you feel sometimes when you take a test gymnastic case stay awake in class pay attention and study
